Utah motorists know they've been seeing prices above average for quite a while- mostly because of refining issues, such as an explosion last year that took a good portion of gasoline production offline.

However, the AP is reporting that parts of the refinery that exploded may finally re-open in the near future, helping pressure prices lower.

According to the AP, A Utah oil refinery that blew up last year says federal regulators have finished an onsite investigation.

Silver Eagle Refining Inc. says it has regained access to the damaged section of the refinery and is making plans to reopen it.

The U.S. Chemical Safety Board seized control of part of the refinery after a 100-foot fireball erupted last...

guess you'll find out how much of the safety upgrades' cost goes into local pump price; and how much is spread across the nation.

We in mid Michigan still rue the closing of the refinery north of Lansing on 27. I think it was in Ithica.

Why drop the price now that they have conditioned the public to higher prices.

Bullpucky! There are so many refineries in Utah that this one is just a drop in the tanker. Silver Eagle will soon be back price-fixing along with Chevron, Flying J, Holly, Tesoro, Foreland, Nuset, Summit, Golden Eagle, and all the rest.

A great example of refinery GREED. Sock it to the consumer. Why didn't Utah get fuel from other sources and a discounted price or did they and just "forget" to lower their price?

The good news was no one was injured in this explosion and the refinery will be operational soon. The perplexing news is why surplus inventory from other areas was not used to keep pump prices lower for the consumer. This indicates a flaw in the overall distribution system which should be corrected.

What a crock of bs. The refinery that had one of its units blow up was one of the, if not the smallest. What this continues to demonstrate is the fact that gouging is alive and well.

From the article;

"The blast damaged dozens of nearby houses. It knocked four refinery workers to the ground, but nobody was injured."

-----------------

Personally I am glad that no one was injured, but I hope those who lived in the homes that were damaged are fairly compensated.

One of the pipelines that feeds Las Vegas comes from Utah and the other from California and people complain about the price of our gas - well the Utah pipeline has been shut down for quite a long time so this should be good for Las Vegas - I hope.

time that the government forces the oil companies to use those excessive profits to update their refineries to avoid dangerous situations like this!! most oil companies have not opened a new refinery in the last 10 years!! SHAME ON THEM!!!
