OK folks, it's time for LOTS more governmental control. It is for our own good.

It's scary to see just how many posters think this is a good idea. Right after the "Guv'mint" institutes THIS erosion of our freedom, they'll be mandating that we all eat only Soylent Green. "A society which trades freedom for security always ends up with NEITHER!"

So those of us who obey the law get to pay more for their cars because of those who don't obey the law...
I don't drink and drive. For those who are repeat offenders of DWI, judges have made such offenders put devices like this on their car at their own cost.
Why sould everyone have to pay extra for obeying the law?

This is the best idea anyone has thought of in a long time. Drunk people don't need to be allowed to drive.

Constant sampling would be the answer with a reduction in insurance premiums across the board.

Hmmm.....a lot of municipalities will lose revenue via DUI fees & surcharges. Hope they don't step up the speed traps to make up for it.

Good idea! I really do not see why the non-alcohol drinking driver should have to pay for the equipment since it will not effect him. However, if having the feature on the vehicle reduces insurance costs dramatically for owners of those cars, then it would be acceptable to me.

Great. but just one question here : what do you do if a driver who has been drinking gets the sober passenger to start the vehicle then the alcohol influenced driver takes over ?

I'm not against technology to prevent drunk drivers from being able to start their cars. I'm only against making the general public pay for it. Make the drunk drivers pay for the technology.

So why will responsible drivers have to pay for an option mandated due to irresponsible sick and or criminal acts.

The first time I run out of my log cabin after a couple of beers to discover an impending forest fire and my only means of escape is to get in my car and drive quickly out of the area.... I'm going to be really, really pissed off when my car prevents me from saving my life. Just sayin'.

Makes good sense for companies as it may help them avoid costly lawsuits and workplace injuries, but for every car . . . that would really be something remarkable [and some expensive lobbying to get the laws passed]

What a handy option to get a break on insurense! Yeah right. The lobby against this would be great! I like the idea as an option.
